Walt Clark Middle School’s Boys Cross Country team won the 2020 Colorado Middle School State Cross Country Championship with 68 points. The WCMS Girls Cross Country team took third place in the state championship with 92 points. The competitions, hosted by Summit Ridge Middle School, were held at Fehringer Ranch Park in Denver.

Loveland High School senior Delaney McNally received the Colorado Association for Gifted and Talented (CAGT) 2020 Youth Impact Award in the Master Division for her project Generation Connect.

During the 2019-2020 school year, 3,090 volunteers donated 45,010 hours to Thompson School District.

Magazine Recognizes TSD Nutrition Services Staff Member as Foodservice Hero
Liz Simon, Thompson School District Nutrition Services site lead, was recognized by Food Management, a national foodservice magazine, as one of 25 K-12 Foodservice Heroes. Food Management sent out a call for nominations of Foodservice Heroes. The magazine then featured submissions from child nutrition programs of individuals who stepped up beyond the call of duty to ensure that kids continued to be fed after their school buildings were shut down due to the coronavirus crisis this spring.

BHS Student is Recipient of Freddie Steinmark Award
Berthoud High School senior Emily Cavey is the 2020 girls recipient of the Freddie Steinmark Award. Cavey is only the second Loveland-area female to receive this prestigious award since its inception. Student athletes nominated for the award must be seniors who have maintained a GPA of at least 3.0 and participated in at least two varsity sports, having earned at least All-Conference in one sport and All-State in another.

LHS Music Program Earns National Award
Loveland High School’s music education program earned the SupportMusic Merit Award from the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation. To qualify for the award, band director and music department chair Kyle Freesen provided information about program funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities and support. The school’s music staff includes Freesen, director of choirs Nicole Ceciliani, director of orchestras Daniel Smith and director of percussion Michael Williams. About 500 students participate in music classes and extracurricular ensembles offered through Loveland High School, which includes concert and chamber orchestras; jazz, concert, chamber and mixed choirs, two women’s choirs and one men’s choir; a musical and supporting pit orchestra; three levels of bands and two jazz bands; and a symphony orchestra.

LHS Student Named Colorado’s Gatorade Softball Player of the Year
Loveland High School senior Laurin Krings was named Colorado’s Gatorade Softball Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Krings is only the fourth player in history to win the Gatorade award twice. She also becomes a finalist for the national award to be announced in June.

Berthoud High School senior Kyle Pinto has been chosen to receive a National Merit Scholarship. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recognizes and honors academically talented students in the United States. Scholarship winners are chosen based on their abilities, skills, extracurricular accomplishments and potential for success in college and beyond.
