  • BHS Student Wins State Wrestling Championship

    Berthoud High School’s Austyn Binkly won the 138-pound 3A State Wrestling Championship title.

  • Loveland Unified Basketball Teams Place at Regional Tournament

    Loveland Unified Basketball had two teams play in the Northeast Special Olympics Regional Tournament at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Team Red, with players Olivia Veldhuisen, Julia Abrahamson, Grace Zweifel, Josie Zweifel, Zac Norman, Heather Price, Joey Flock, Henry Stucky, Donovan Martinez and Rhyse Bates, took first. Team White, with players Zinnia Stewart, Kelsey McCrory, Kyler Medron, Lacy Adams, Destyn Valentine, Kaytlynn Williams, Jayson Nguyen, Gavin Saltsman and Allie Westman, took second.

  • Students Participate in Colorado Elementary All State Choir

    Students from Garfield, Mary Blair, Ponderosa, and Immanuel Lutheran elementary schools participated in the Colorado Elementary All State Choir at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. Students were selected by audition and spent the day working with nationally acclaimed teachers.   • TSD Staff Honored by Colorado Congress of Foreign Language Teachers

    Thompson School District staff were honored at the annual conference of the Colorado Congress of Foreign Language Teachers, which aims to advance the study and teaching of world languages at all levels of education throughout Colorado. Awards given to those who contributed to that goal in the past year included: Ida Weber, Truscott Elementary School, Early Career Educator Award; Sharla Riott, Lucile Erwin Middle School, Kris Wells Memorial Creativity Award; Superintendent Stan Scheer and Chief Academic Officer Margaret Crespo, Friend of World Languages Award; and Amanda Sanders, Ponderosa Elementary School, who received a scholarship to attend the organization’s spring conference.

  • Students Advance to State Spelling Bee

    Nearly 200 students competed in the 21st Thompson School District spelling bee.

    A total of 56 middle school students qualified for the written portion of the spelling bee and 22 made it to the verbal competition. The top six spellers qualified to compete at the state competition in hopes of making it to the 90th National Spelling Bee. Four alternates also were named. The top 10 middle school spellers, starting with first place, were: Zoë Schoo, Turner; Peter Swing, Bill Reed; Kaylee Sellers, Walt Clark; Rikky Coke, High Plains; Haley Hanks, Turner; Julia Ward, Bill Reed; Tate Charboneau, Bill Reed; Emily Allen, High Plains; Christopher Brown, Bill Reed; and Paxton Walker, Conrad Ball.

    From a pool of 132 elementary school students eligible for the written test, 18 students were chosen for the final oral rounds. The contest went through 18 total rounds plus a spell-off for third place. The top three elementary school spellers, in order, were: Dinesh McCoy, Coyote Ridge; Lexi Ginther, Big Thompson; and Anderson Hendrix, High Plains.

  • MVHS Student Receives Congressional Recommendation

    Mountain View High School student Shane Lindsay received a congressional recommendation for the Air Force Academy. The recommendation is highly competitive.

  • MVHS Wins High School Red Kettle Challenge

    Mountain View High School won the High School Red Kettle Challenge for the fourth year in a row. MVHS students participated for a total of 52 hours to help support the Salvation Army. In total, the Salvation Army was able to raise over $94,000 to support those less fortunate in our community.

  • WCMS Awarded Grant Money for STEM Curriculum

    The Live Laugh Love and Believe Foundation awarded over $6,000 to 15 Walt Clark Middle School teachers to support STEM curriculum. This grant money will assist with classroom equipment and supplies.

  • Turkey Trot Participants Win Money for Their Schools

    McKee Medical Center Foundation gave $300 to each school that had participants in this year’s Turkey Trot. The money was provided for wellness efforts at the schools. A total of $8,100 was given to TSD. Ponderosa Elementary and Namaqua Elementary were the school winners for top participation with 90 and 84 participants respectively.

  • TVHS Cheerleading Team Takes Second at State Spirit Competition

    The Thompson Valley High School cheerleading team placed second at the Colorado High School Activities Association’s State Spirit Competition in Denver. Following an undefeated season, Thompson Valley tied Valor Christian High School in points at the state 4A division competition. Valor Christian won the state title by only one-tenth of a point in a tie-breaker.
