Nearly 200 students competed in the 21st Thompson School District spelling bee.

A total of 56 middle school students qualified for the written portion of the spelling bee and 22 made it to the verbal competition. The top six spellers qualified to compete at the state competition in hopes of making it to the 90th National Spelling Bee. Four alternates also were named. The top 10 middle school spellers, starting with first place, were: Zoë Schoo, Turner; Peter Swing, Bill Reed; Kaylee Sellers, Walt Clark; Rikky Coke, High Plains; Haley Hanks, Turner; Julia Ward, Bill Reed; Tate Charboneau, Bill Reed; Emily Allen, High Plains; Christopher Brown, Bill Reed; and Paxton Walker, Conrad Ball.

From a pool of 132 elementary school students eligible for the written test, 18 students were chosen for the final oral rounds. The contest went through 18 total rounds plus a spell-off for third place. The top three elementary school spellers, in order, were: Dinesh McCoy, Coyote Ridge; Lexi Ginther, Big Thompson; and Anderson Hendrix, High Plains.
